Felix, the Fox

I'm happy to introduce you the Fox of the Topy Family. His name is Felix.

MATERIALS

Yarn: orange, off-white/cream and black

I used: Himalaya Perlina: 50-50% acrylic-cotton, 100g/290m (129 Orange, 101 Off-white/Cream, 110 Black)

Safety eyes: 9 mm

Fiberfill: 100% polyester

Crochet hook: 2-2.5 mm

Yarn needle

Scissors

 

*You can use other type of yarn but doing so your fox may look different and size may differ from the ones shown on the pictures. If you intend to use other yarn than suggested, I recommend to try using as similar as possible to get the same result.

 

Size of the Fox made with the listed tools (appr.):

Height: 15 cm / 5.90”

Width (head): 8 cm / 3.14”

 

ABBREVIATIONS

ch = chain

dc= double crochet

dec = decrease (invisible decrease!)

hdc = half double crochet

inc = increase

R = round (R1: first round, R2: 2nd round, etc.)

sc = single crochet

sl st = slip stitch

(…) = make all stitches into the same stitch

 

NOTE: I worked in continuous rounds vs. joined rounds – except where I marked it.

Head

Start with orange yarn.

R1: 6 sc in Magic Ring (6)

R2: 6 inc (12)

R3: (1 sc, 1 inc) - 6 times (18)

R4: (2 sc, 1 inc) - 6 times (24)

R5: (1 sc, 1 inc, 2 sc) - 6 times (30)

R6: (4 sc, 1 inc) - 6 times (36)

R7: 36 sc

R8: (8 sc, 1 inc) - 4 times (40)

R9-10: 40 sc

R11: (9 sc, 1 inc) - 4 times (44)

R12: (5 sc, 1 inc, 5 sc) - 4 times (48)

R13: (11 sc, 1 inc) - 4 times (52)

Place safety eyes between R18 and R19 of the head, 8-9 stitches apart. Start stuffing.

R27: (5 sc, 1 dec) - 8 times (48)

R28: (1 dec, 4 sc) - 8 times (40)

R29: (3 sc, 1 dec) - 8 times (32)

R30: (1 dec, 2 sc) - 8 times (24)

Continue stuffing.

R31: (1 sc, 1 dec) - 8 times (16)

R32: 8 dec (8)

Fasten off and close the remaining hole.

 

 

Ears

Make 2, start with orange yarn.

R1: 8 sc in Magic Ring (8)

R2: 5 inc, 1 sc, 1 ch and turn.

(Don’t make any stitches into the last 2 stiches of R1.)

R3: 1 sc, 1 inc, 2 sc, (1 hdc, 1 dc), (1 dc, 1 hdc), 2 sc, 1 inc, 1 sc (14)

(Don’t make any stitches into the 1st stich of R2.)

Cut the yarn, leave long end for sewing.

Change to black yarn, make a slip knot and start working in the 1st stitch of R3.

R4: 6 sc, (2 hdc), (2 hdc), 6 sc (16)

Cut the yarn, leave long end for sewing. Attach the ears on the head. One end of the ear is between R5 and R6 of the head, the other is between R12 and R13 of the head.

R2: 8 inc (16)

R3: (1 sc, 1 inc) - 8 times (24)

R4: (2 sc, 1 inc) - 8 times (32)

R5: (1 sc, 1 inc, 2 sc) – 8 times (40)

R6-13: 40 sc (40)

R14: (1 dec, 5 sc, 1 dec, 5 sc, 1 dec, 4 sc) – twice (34)

R15-17: 34 sc

R18: (1 dec, 6 sc, 1 dec, 7 sc) - twice (30)

Fasten off and leave long end for sewing. Stuff body and attach it to the head.

 

 

Arms

Make 2, start with black yarn.

R1: 6 sc in Magic Ring (6)

R2: 6 inc (12)

R3-5: 12 sc

R6: (2 sc, 1 dec) - 3 times (9)

R7-8: 9 sc

R9: 4 sc, 1 dec, 3 sc (8)

Change to orange yarn.

R10-12: 8 sc

Cut the yarn, leave long end for sewing. Stuff the arms, but only very loosely. Sew the open ends together and attach arms to sides of body.

 

 

Legs

Make 2 with black yarn.

R1: 7 sc Magic Ring (7)

R2: 7 inc (14)

RK3-4: 14 sc

R5: 6 sc, 4 dec (10)

R6-7: 10 sc

R8: 7 sc, 1 dec, 1 sc (9)

R9: 7 sc, 1 dec (8)

Make 2 more sc. Cut the yarn, leave long end for sewing.  Stuff the feet, ends only. Do not stuff thighs. Sew the open ends together and attach legs to sides of body.

 

 

Tail

Start with off-white yarn.

R1: 6 sc Magic Ring (6)

R2: (1 sc, 1 inc) – 3 times (9)

R3: 9 sc

R4: (2 sc, 1 inc) – 3 times (12)

R5: (1 inc, 3 sc) – 3 times (15)

R6: (4 sc, 1 inc) – 3 times (18)

Change to black yarn.

R7: (1 inc, 5 sc) – 3 times (21)

Change to orange yarn.

R8-13*: 21 sc

Start stuffing.

R14: (1 dec, 5 sc) – 3 times (18)

R15: 18 sc

R16: (4 sc, 1 dec) – 3 times (15)

R17: 15 sc

Continue stuffing.

R18: (1 dec, 3 sc) – 3 times (12)

R19: 12 sc

R20: (1 sc, 1 dec) – 4 times (8)

R21: 8 sc

Make 2 more sc. Cut the yarn, leave long end for sewing. Attach onto bottom-back of body.

 

 

Finally sew the nose and mouth with black yarn; and letter “F” on body with white and then with black yarn. If you don’t want to use safety eyes, feel free to sew eyes with black yarn.

 

 

Use your creativity, and use colors, or make accessories like a scarf, a hat, or trousers, etc. My Bobby Bunny free pattern has the same body as Felix, the Fox, so for example you can use that pattern to give your fox cool trousers.
